Nature has a right to rest. Takes the right to rest. Uses the winter to rest.
This work deals with our inability to see all aspects of a situation clearly: We cannot focus on the foreground and the background at the same time, not on what is happening on the surface and on what is happening underneath or behind it. We can only focus on isolated parts from different distances and perspectives.
The subject of this work is a lake, between freezing and thawing. After some time in the minus range and the formation of a solid layer of ice, the temperatures fluctuate back and forth around the freezing point for days. It is a state of in-between.
The eye and the lens search tentatively. Photography makes it possible to capture the fleeting conditions. A struggle takes place between indecision and a tendency to solidify.
The starting point for the individual shot is a fleck that the eye has identified. To find the form, the aspect to be focused on, the detail of a situation. A crack, a blur, a reflection, a mirrored reality, a recognition and misrecognition. To capture and mark what has been found.
To slow down, a longing for calm.
